An attendance system collects a lot of data. The trick is knowing which numbers tell you something useful and which are just noise. A handful of well-chosen KPIs turn raw clock-ins into decisions.
Metrics that reveal workforce health
- Absenteeism rate: unplanned absences as a share of scheduled days — a leading indicator of burnout, morale and scheduling problems
- Punctuality / late-arrival rate: how often shifts start late, by team and by site
- Overtime hours: tracked against budget to catch creeping labour cost early
- Actual vs scheduled hours: the gap between the roster and reality
- Early departures: shifts cut short, which often hides a staffing or workload issue
From numbers to action
A KPI only matters if it changes a decision. A rising absenteeism rate in one team is a prompt to talk to that team’s manager. Persistent overtime at one site may mean it is understaffed. Patterns of lateness on certain shifts can point to transport or scheduling friction.
Why accurate capture comes first
KPIs are only as good as the data underneath them. If clock-ins are rounded, padded or shared, your metrics are measuring fiction. Biometric capture gives you exact, verified events, so the trends you act on are real.
Keep the dashboard focused
Resist the urge to track everything. Pick the three or four KPIs that connect to a decision someone actually makes, review them on a regular cadence, and let the rest stay available for when you need to dig deeper. NCheck reporting lets you slice attendance by team, site and period so the numbers you watch most stay front and centre.
